Shigar Valley

The valley is situated in Gilgit Baltistan in northern Pakistan. The Shigar River flows through the valley, and is the centrepiece of the region. It stretches 170 km from Skardu to Askole. Shigar is considered the gateway to the Karakoram Mountains, but is largely inaccessible. The town of Askole is the last settlement, located far from the mountains. But that does not mean you cannot enjoy the valley's natural beauty and experience its untouched nature.

Located 32 km from Skardu, the Shigar Valley is a beautiful place that offers a unique blend of culture and history. The valley is nestled between the Karakoram and Hunza mountain ranges and the Rondu mountain range. It is also known as the Shigar Valley, and the local population speaks Balti. In addition to the Balti-speaking population, Shigar is home to Tibetan and Mongol tribes. The weather is generally pleasant throughout the year, and you can enjoy the scenery that the valley has to offer.

The medicinal flora of the Shigar Valley has been documented in a comprehensive ethnomedicine study. The local inhabitants use the plant flora for a variety of purposes, including healing indigestion, abdominal worms, and women's sterility. Two species were new to the region, and four were used for medicinal purposes. The endemic Arnebia guttata was used to treat indigestion, tonsillitis, and abdominal worm.
