Gilgit-Baltistan is divided into two main regions from a tourist's point of view:

 Gilgit and Skardu.

  • On the Karakoram Highway, after Raikot Bridge and before Jaglot, you can turn towards Astore from Astore Chowk.

  • From Gilgit JSR Chowk, the road goes down to Alam Bridge, which leads to Skardu.

  • Straight ahead, about half an hour’s drive, you reach Gilgit city.

Gilgit City: 

Gilgit city is surrounded by many peaceful and breathtaking areas, such as Sakwar, Pari Bangla, Chhamogarh, Oshikhandas, Jutial, Danyore, Hanzal, Nomal, Sultanabad, Nageral, Khomer, Ampheri, Majini Mohallah, and more.

For shopping, NL Market and Taj Market are excellent options. Hotels range from 1,000 PKR to 20,000–30,000 PKR, depending on your choice and budget. Food is clean and affordable in a healthy environment.

Gilgit is also the headquarters and center of Gilgit-Baltistan. It hosts the Provincial Assembly and all major government offices.

At Burzil Top (13,808 ft), you will find a peaceful environment, snow walls (even in July), and icy winds blowing from snow-capped mountains. Beyond Burzil Top lies Minimarg, which is geographically part of Azad Jammu & Kashmir but administratively under Gilgit-Baltistan. From Minimarg via Kamri Top, one can reach Taobat in Neelum Valley, AJK – a historic route once used to travel towards Srinagar.
